RNUNL Presents $5,000 Donation to Kids Eat Smart Foundation during Radiothon

On behalf of the Registered Nurses’ Union of Newfoundland and Labrador (RNUNL), President Yvette Coffey proudly presented a $5,000 donation to the Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador (KES Foundation) during their annual Radiothon. This significant contribution adds to RNUNL’s ongoing support for Kids Eat Smart, an initiative they have championed for the past 18 years. To date the Registered Nurses Union of Newfoundland and Labrador has contributed $75,000 to help provide healthy meals to school children across the province.

This year’s Radiothon raised an impressive $325,037.20, enabling Kids Eat Smart NL to serve 325,037 breakfasts to children in schools at no cost to families. This is an impressive accomplishment, especially as the cost of living continues to climb, leaving many families across Newfoundland and Labrador struggling to afford necessities, including nutritious food.

Reliable access to balanced meals is crucial for children’s development. Research underscores that children who consistently eat nutritious food perform better in school, are more focused, and experience fewer health issues. Inadequate nutrition, on the other hand, can impede their learning, concentration, and emotional well-being, putting their future at risk.

By supporting the Kids Eat Smart program, RNUNL is not only helping to meet the nutritional needs of children today but also investing in the long-term health and success of Newfoundland and Labrador’s future generations. “No child in our province should ever go hungry,” Coffey stated, emphasizing the importance of providing children with the resources they need to thrive and succeed.
