Take Action: Use Our Online Tool to Email Your MHA Today

RNUNL launches public campaign to push for safer staffing and accountability in health care

The Registered Nurses’ Union Newfoundland & Labrador (RNUNL) has launched a new online tool that makes it easy for members of the public to contact their Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) and speak out for meaningful investment in nursing and public health care.

With just a few clicks, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can send a personalized message calling for urgent action to improve working conditions for nurses, reduce unsafe staffing, and end the province’s growing reliance on costly private agency contracts.

“Nurses are stretched thin and calling for support — not just for themselves, but for the patients and communities they serve,” said RNUNL President Yvette Coffey. “This is a public issue, and it demands a public response.”

The campaign comes on the heels of troubling findings from the Auditor General’s report, which revealed skyrocketing spending on agency nurses without clear long-term planning or oversight. Combined with delayed responses to workplace violence, harassment, OH&S issues, and denied leave requests, the situation is taking a toll on both nurses and patients.

RNUNL is calling on the public to demand that MHAs:

  • Support a transparent investigation into agency spending by the Public Accounts Committee;

  • Invest in long-term, community-based staffing solutions;

  • Respond promptly and respectfully to the concerns of frontline nurses.
