St. John’s, NL (July 30, 2025) – The Registered Nurses’ Union Newfoundland and Labrador (RNUNL) is proud to launch its new public awareness campaign, There’s an NP for That, across the province. This initiative shines a light on the expertise, value, and essential role of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) across the province.
NPs are highly trained, independent healthcare providers who deliver both primary and specialized care in clinics, hospitals, community health centres, and long-term care facilities—serving patients in urban, rural, and remote communities. In many areas, NPs are the only providers offering services that would otherwise be unavailable.
“We’ve heard from so many of our NP members that they feel unseen, unheard, and undervalued—even though they’re often on the frontlines providing critical care,” says Yvette Coffey, RNUNL President. “We created this campaign to bring visibility to their professorial identity and give the public a clear picture of just how essential NPs are.”
A campaign rooted in advocacy and identity
‘There’s an NP for That’ builds on RNUNL’s long-standing commitment to advocacy, including the union’s Clarity Project, which aims to increase visibility and recognition of Registered Nurses (RNs). At its recent biennial convention, RNUNL reaffirmed its dedication to promoting clear and accurate understanding of nursing roles, including the distinct contributions of NPs.
This campaign was developed in collaboration with NPs from across the province to ensure the messaging reflects their lived experiences—capturing both their frustrations and their deep passion for patient-centered care.
The campaign will roll out in three phases:
- Public education: Raising awareness about the NP scope of practice and their ability to deliver comprehensive care.
- Professional solidarity: Using a peer-to-peer approach to help the public educate and inform each other about the role and value of NPs.
- Identity and storytelling: Giving NPs a platform to share personal stories, reclaim their professional identity, and articulate the impact and nuances of their role.
Launching at the Royal St. John’s Regatta
The campaign will launch officially at the 207th Regatta, where RNUNL will host a booth to welcome the public.
The campaign website, npforthat.ca, features educational resources and calls-to-action.
Campaign ads and materials will also be shared across RNUNL’s social media platforms, InTouch newsletter, local digital media, radio, billboards, and other placements across the province.
